Pastors Fail

It is necessary for pastors in training to complete an introductory course in psychology. This will aid them in understanding consciousness, emotions, learning, human development, social behaviour, and their role as nurturer. Pastors in training should engage in a series of therapy to help them discover self and any weakness or struggles they might have that were not dealt with. Pastors should also be prepared to deal with issues of sexuality and how to practice prevention techniques when faced with compromising situations.

Pastoral psychology accounts for empowering individuals through a religious experience. It seeks to understand personality and enrich interpersonal relations through human development, self-actualization and means of religious growth. The necessity of understanding the various psychological and learning processes is central to leading, impacting, and achieving positive results within a church. The pastor is called to lead by example and acknowledge mistakes as they work with congregants. There are many opportunities for pastors to learn from their followers but more often, it is the followers who are more than willing to have their pastor guide them. Pastors must endeavor not to breech the trust of congregants. They are not exempted from the law and must face the full penalty when the law is broken.
